Flexigrip Sternal Closure System
Flexigrip is a sternal closure system with specific indication in cardiothoracic surgery.
The system is composed by nitinol staples and an instrumentation kit. The staple act as a brace holding together permanently and safely the sternal osteotomy.
The clips are easily implanted and as much easily removed if needed
Nitinol will not osteointegrate, making an eventual removal much easier
Nitinol won’t create problems with image diagnosis (TAC or NMR)
Flexigrip advantages (over steel wires)
External to the sternum (“not-through-the-bone” device)
No bleeding, no cutting effect
Enhanced (4x) contact surface area (lower stress per mm2)
Compression stress in the sternum corticalis only
Open “C” design preserving flexibility and avoiding ischemia
Standard Tension not depending by users
Indications
For primary sternal closure
COPD
Obesity
Low Cardiac Output
Diabetes
Bilateral IMA Harvesting
Advanced age (>75 yrs.)
Steroids or Immunosuppressant
Severe osteoporosis, hemodialysis
Wheelchair bound patients
Paramedian sternotomy, BIMA
For sternal re-wiring and reconstructions
