Flexigrip Sternal Closure System 

Flexigrip is a sternal closure system with specific indication in cardiothoracic surgery.

The system is composed by nitinol staples and an instrumentation kit. The staple act as a brace holding together permanently and safely the sternal osteotomy.

• The clips are easily implanted and as much easily removed if needed
• Nitinol will not osteointegrate, making an eventual removal much easier
• Nitinol won’t create problems with image diagnosis (TAC or NMR)

Flexigrip advantages (over steel wires)

• External to the sternum (“not-through-the-bone” device)
• No bleeding, no cutting effect
• Enhanced (4x) contact surface area  (lower stress per mm2)
• Compression stress in the sternum corticalis only
• Open “C” design preserving flexibility and avoiding ischemia
• Standard Tension not depending by users

Indications

• For primary sternal closure
• COPD
• Obesity
• Low Cardiac Output
• Diabetes
• Bilateral IMA Harvesting
• Advanced age (>75 yrs.)
• Steroids or Immunosuppressant
• Severe osteoporosis, hemodialysis
• Wheelchair bound patients
• Paramedian sternotomy, BIMA
• For sternal re-wiring and reconstructions
