Certificate course for Cardiac Emergency using USCOM, held at PWH by Hong Kong Chinese University, Division of Cardiology

Pacific Medical Systems Ltd was invited to participate in the Hands-on Session in the Cardiac Emergency Course, held on 10-11 Oct 2005, at the Postgraduate Education Centre at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Shatin, Hong Kong.
Over 250 participants, mainly critical nursing staff from various hospitals were present for this 2-day event.
Pacific Medical Systems Ltd showcased the USCOM device, a non-invasive, beat-to-beat, Cardiac Output Monitor based on the proven doppler technology.
Following a brief introduction on the theory of operation (Calculating the Cardiac Output using doppler technology) by Dr. Alex P.W.Lee, participants tried out themselves with great enthusiasm after a quick demonstration.
The participants were surprised with the ease of obtaining the realtime beat-to-beat cardiac output signal and learned to optimise it for a consistent reading. The great benefits with this non-invasive approach and its ease of use for haemodynamics monitoring were quickly recognized. The interest generated by the USCOM device was reflected by the number of questions raised throughout the hands-on session by different groups throughout the day.
