In addition to the overwhelming interest in the Djumbodis aortic dissection system, the exhibition also served to further the momentum and awareness of Pacific Medical Systems as a dedicated supplier of cardiovascular surgery products in the Asia Pacific region. Novel technologies such as the Vivostat autologous fibrin system, Synthemed’s bioresorbable adhesion barrier (Repel-CV), the Kalangos biodegradable annuloplasty ring, all received with much enthusiasm.
CoroNéo, with its first Asia showing at the recent ATCSA in Bali, was again creating a lot of interest with its supremely engineered, light-weight, titanium retractors for valve, beating heart, paediatric and intercostal surgery. Moreover the external aortic annuloplasty ring, also made by CoroNéo, which is currently undergoing a large European trial focusing on standardizing the approach of conservative aortic valve surgery, was responsible for a great deal of excitement.
MediStim with its dedicated focus in coronary graft patency verification and intra-operative documentation following CABG surgery is rapidly gaining momentum. Surgeons, healthcare providers, patients and communities at large, are demanding improvements in surgical procedure and quality assurance.
The Saint Come Djumbodis Aortic Dissection System, designed and CE approved for acute aortic dissections, was very well received by all the participants of the Endovascular Aortic Stenting Course which was held concurrently to the main ASCVS lectures on Saturday at National University Hospital.
The Djumbodis bare stent system is a novel approach for the treatment of acute aortic dissections and can be used to treat both type-A and type-B dissections. Among others it limits the potential for a post surgical migration of the dissection and provides an alternative to aortic arch replacement. Its unique design and deployment via a uniquely designed, low pressure and highly compliant balloon catheter, allows this bare stent prosthesis to fit the aorta snugly to its anatomical shape, restoring the aortic wall and thrombosing of the false lumen. The 40 participants were able to get hands on training during this workshop.
Since 2001 over 2500 Djumbodis stents have been implanted in patients across Europe with great success and without the challenges often associated with covered stent grafts. Recently the Djumbodis was introduced in Asia and many surgeons have expressed keen interest to start using it to treat patients in this geography, with several implants already performed in Singapore. |
