Pacific Medical Systems showcased USCOM in sponsored Combined
Scientific Meeting in Anaesthesiology 26-28 September 2003.
This exciting meeting was jointly organized by the Hong
Kong College of Anaesthesiologists,
the Society
of Anaesthetists of Hong Kong and the International
Society for Anaesthetic Pharmacology.
During the well attended conference, Pacific Medical Systems
showcased USCOM, a non-invasive cardiac output monitor based
on the well-proven and extensively validated Continuous Wave
Doppler technology.
This cutting-edge and highly mobile patient monitor, weighing
under 5kg, is designed for use in any clinical setting where
haemodynamics form a part of patient management.
The response at the conference was overwhelming. With words
spreading quickly amongst those attended, doctors and professors
eagerly headed straight out of seminars during the breaks to
join the line of others for additional information. Those who
managed to participate in live demonstrations have provided
encouraging comments on the valuable contribution with the
non-evasiveness of the devise and the extent of the data which
can be provided.
A senior Anaesthetists from the Prince of Wales hospital commented: "...
the data provided by this monitor will be most helpful in improving
fluid management.....".
Another senior Anaesthetists from the Hong Kong Sanitorium
Hospital, a reputable local private hospital, commented :"...although
I grew up using Swan Ganz catheters and in more recent years
have also been using Transesophageal probes to get these measurements,
the use of this totally non-evasive devise is most appealing......."
Such vast interests in this USCOM product and the comments
are affirmative of the findings of a recent survey on over
700 physicians & nurses worldwide, conducted by General
Electric Medical Systems, which concluded that “Non-invasive
haemodynamic monitoring is a number one unmet need”.
