In a landmark achievement for Macau's cardiac surgery landscape, the cardiac team at Kiang Wu Hospital successfully performed their first procedure using the innovative smartcanula® on November 24, 2025.

The complex case involved a double heart valve repair (mitral and tricuspid) via a minimally invasive approach. The surgery was supported by the expertise of Dr. Daniel Chan from Hong Kong's Queen Mary Hospital, facilitating a seamless introduction of the technology.

The surgical and perfusion teams reported outstanding results. They highlighted the smartcanula®'s impressive ease of use and its ability to provide efficient, powerful venous drainage without requiring vacuum assistance or caval snaring. This capability allowed the heart to be rapidly emptied, creating an optimally clear and bloodless surgical field that significantly streamlined the complex procedure.

This successful first case marks a critical milestone in advancing minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS) capabilities in Macau. The smartcanula®'s performance demonstrates its potential to simplify surgical workflows and enhance precision for complex interventions.
Pacific Medical Systems congratulates the entire Kiang Wu Hospital team on this pioneering achievement. We are proud to support the adoption of technologies that elevate surgical standards and patient care in the region.
